Dental Crowns in Southwest Calgary

Dental crowns are used to restore teeth that have been weakened by decay, damage, or wear. A crown covers the tooth and helps support it so it can function more comfortably day to day.

At Bridlewood Dental Clinic, crowns are often recommended when a tooth needs more support than a filling can provide.

What Is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is a custom-made covering that fits over the visible portion of a tooth.

It is designed to bring back the shape and strength of the tooth so it can be used more normally again. In some cases, it can also improve how the tooth looks.

Crowns are often used when a tooth has been significantly worn down, has a large filling, or has had a root canal, depending on its condition.

When Dental Crowns May Be Recommended

A crown may be suggested when a tooth needs added support or protection.

This may include:

  • A tooth that is weakened or at risk of breaking
  • A cracked or worn tooth
  • A tooth that has had a root canal
  • A large or failing filling
  • A tooth that needs to be rebuilt for better function

We will take a look at the tooth and talk through whether a crown makes sense for your situation.

What to Expect During Treatment

Dental crowns are typically completed over two visits.

At the first visit, we prepare the tooth by removing any decay or weakened areas and shaping it to support the crown. We then take a digital scan or impression so the crown can be made to fit your tooth and bite. A temporary crown is placed to protect the tooth in the meantime.

At the second visit, the temporary crown is removed and the final crown is placed. We check how it fits and how your bite comes together, making any adjustments before securing it in place.

A Reliable Option for Restoring a Tooth

Crowns are used to help restore teeth so they can handle everyday use.

They provide added strength and protection while fitting in with your surrounding teeth. The goal is for the crown to feel stable and function as part of your natural bite.

Considering a Dental Crown

If you have a tooth that is damaged, worn, or has a large filling, it may be worth having it looked at.

In many cases, addressing the issue early can help prevent further damage and support the long-term function of the tooth.
